“Children learn more from what you are than what you teach.” – W.E.B. Dubios
What we say and do around our children matters! What they learn from us becomes part of their identity, like their physical features.
Below are some examples of the three mentioned ways of learning.
- Conditioning
Your child is scared of loud noises. Someone sneezes loudly, your child will become scared of the person.
- Identification
A child observes parents getting loud and harsh when angry. As a grown up they are wired to express anger loudly and harshly.
- Conclusion
If one apple tastes unpleasant, the child could conclude that all apples taste bad.
If a child is told that laughing loudly is unacceptable in a situation, the child could conclude that laughing is always unacceptable.
